Foundation History
The Community Foundation of South Alabama was formed in 1975 and incorporated in 1976 as The Mobile Community Foundation, an Alabama not-for-profit corporation.
The newly formed public foundation was designed to complement the work of United Way by providing grants to agencies other than social service organizations.
In 1994, The Mobile Community Foundation changed its name to The Community Foundation of South Alabama to reflect service to the eight counties of South Alabama.
Historically the Board of Directors has been composed of the regions’ philanthropists, civic leaders, business professionals and community volunteers.
The Community Foundation draws its strength from the diverse population of South Alabama and seeks to fund innovative programs that meet important community needs.
