A University of Alabama graduate, Tom completed a commissioned tour of duty in the United States Air Force before returning to Mobile in 1971. He worked as Chief Administrative Officer of First Southern Federal Savings & Loan Association (now Union Planters/ Regions Bank) where he worked for twelve years. He became the first full time employee at The Mobile Community Foundation (now The Community Foundation of South Alabama) initially as the Development Director in 1984 under the leadership of the founder, William Kaufman, and as Executive Director in 1985.

The Community Foundation assets have grown from $3 million to $44 million over the past twenty years under the expert volunteer leadership of the Board of Directors and Tom’s role as facilitator. Charitable funds have also increased in number from 60 to 330 along with significantly increased grant making.

Tom feels that his time at The Community Foundation has been very rewarding, seeing more and more people becoming more concerned about improving the life of South Alabamians. He is married to Anne Weaver, the father of three sons, and resides on the Eastern Shore.
